Happy New Year 2013
2012 has absolutely flown by and even though I did manage to re-design and re-code my blog I haven't been as active as I wanted to be. So like every new year I'm going make a resolution to blog more and get some more CakePHP stuff on here.
Personally 2012 was quite a big year as I went full time contracting back in July which means working from home and not having a few hours round trip commute every single day. Things are going well with some nice projects under my belt and one very large project still ongoing which will hopefully be released over the next few months.
Holiday wise my fiance and I went to Cuba in April which was brilliant, heartily reccommend the place. We went to a resort in Varadero which is very much a "touristy" place and took day trips out and about; with one to Havana. Picked up plenty of rum and cigars and managed to squeeze in a swim with the dolphins. A great holiday and well worth the 9 hour flight over there, the people are amazing and definitely a place to put on and tick off your list.
Managed to read around 30 books in 2012 which is pretty good going, not quite as many as 2011 and I think that's due to the fact that I did most of my reading on my commute which I've since stopped doing. Here are a few highlights:
- The Sisters Brothers
- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
- A Song of Ice and Fire, 7 Volumes (A Clash of Kings & A Storm of Swords)
- The Book Thief
- The Time Machine Did It
Managed to watch and track (filmtracker.co.uk - shameless plug) a few films in 2012, didn't get chance to go to cinema much but managed to catch a few biggies:
- Cabin in the Woods
- End of Watch
- Dark Knight Rises
- Midnight in Paris
- In Time
TV Show Recommendations
I think the only new TV Show I started watching last year was House of Lies and the rest are fantastic follow up seasons that are definitely worth getting upto date on: (Another shameless plug tvshowtracker.co.uk :) )
- American Horror Story
- House of Lies
- Sons of Anarchy
- Breaking Bad
I've always wanted to learn a language and I've attempted to learn French a couple of times over the past few years with no success, in late 2012 I started again with the help of Memrise and Duolingo. Two great sources for learning a language and Duolingo has a fantastic app for iOS and Android which is great for learning and keeps you wanting more.
2012 has been a great year, lots of weddings, lots of stag dos and some great gigs. 2013 is going to be even better with my own wedding and a great trip planned to America and Mexico and hopefully some great projects to get my teeth stuck into. As mentioned I'll try and plan and publish more posts this year and I even have a CakePHP book in mind so that may even come out if I can get my ass in gear. Hope your 2012 was great and I wish you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2013!
