Happy New Year, hello 2010
Happy New Year! I hope that you had a really good time over the Christmas period and that you celebrated the new year in style. I've been quite lazy with regards to my website but I've intentions of writing more regularly, whether I can stick with it is another question but I'll have to see.
The series on creating a full CakePHP application has been successful so I may do another one of those using the latest version of Cake and include some of things I've learnt along the way. I've also struggled with writing posts so if you have any ideas or you would like anything covered in a tutorial just leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.
Plans
I'm intending to give the website a refresh, both in design and also the back-end code. I've already started the application using the latest version of CakePHP and that'll probably give me a few ideas on blog posts. This site is around 2 years old and looking at the source code it shows so re-developing it is a given.
I've added a few items to CodeCanyon as an initial experiment to see if I could make a little passive income, things have been going quite well but I only have 2 items on there and I plan to add a few more when I find the time. If you're interested I've created a simple file uploader and an Ajax store locator which uses the Google Maps API, both are written in PHP with some jQuery.
My CakeBattles application has been doing ok with a few sales here and there, I may look into re-doing it and adding some extra features but yet again that's on my to-do list which is getting quite long.
I watch quite a lot of films and TV shows, listen to quite a bit of music and try to read as much as I can. When I find something really good I'll try and let people know so expect some random posts on those things along with the usual developer related stuff.
Don't be telling anyone but I use CodeIgniter quite a lot for my day job projects, so I may even do some posts on how CodeIgniter does things. In my opinion CakePHP is still the better framework but it's good to expand and see how other people tackle and solve problems.
You, yes you reading
Do you want to see anything covered? Drop me an email or leave a comment and I'll do my best to cover the topic. I've been rubbish recently but thats only because I have trouble coming up with things to discuss.
Wrapping Up
I wish you all the best for the upcoming year and I hope 2010 brings you everything you want.
